Why are there so few women in the German Army? | DW News

would you join the army of your country
if you’re a woman your answer May well
be no countries around the world are
strengthening their militaries but still
woman soldiers are a rare
sight and Germany is no exception as of
today roughly 13% of German soldiers are
female most of them work in the medical
service that’s relatively low compared
to other Western countries in the US
it’s 20% same for the Ukraine
in Israel 34% of soldiers are
women so what’s different in
Germany first many people here are
suspicious of the army for historical
reasons second cases of sexual abuse
further damaged its image third systemic
discrimination and inequities often
disadvantage women in the
military but the German government is
looking for ways to achieve a more
gender diverse military

Countries worldwide are strengthening their armies, but women are
still widely underrepresented. Germany is no exception. As of today, roughly 13% of German soldiers are female. Most of them work in the medical service. That’s relatively low compared to other Western countries. In the US it’s 20%; same for the Ukraine. In Israel 34% of soldiers are women.

  1. The 3 countries she mentions having more women in their military than Germany are 3 of the worst regimes imaginable…
Do with this info as you please. 😂

  2. This outrageous case of misogyny can be solved by female only military units (to be safe from sexual abuse) and equal opportunities to serve covertly on the front lines in Ukraine. Maybe serve even more than equal on the battlefield, to make up for the historical inequality and oppression of women.

  3. I personally think a woman is too valuable/critical to society to and the family core to send to war. There was good reason women were not sent down into mines or logging operations in forests. It was too dangerous and society traditionally would not tolerate it. Also men are more suitable for many traditionally manly roles due to being physically stronger and hardier.
Men are expandable – women are not. … and we men love it!

  4. Men and women haven't changed in 100,000 years of human history. Women still care for the children and elderly, (nurses, teachers, care workers, social workers and so on). Men are still "hunters" (armed forces, firefighters, police, builders of tall buildings and so on)!

  5. The men-women war going on in the comment section is an amazing sight to see! 😂
You can read the rest of my comment if you want but fair warning: i typed a whole bunch of philosophical bs so if you don’t want to read that then there ya go.

    Enjoy.

Could the answer be that people in general, men and women just didnt want to grow up to be another dead soldier? And that that is not a lifestyle people like to consider?

Or maybe women just want to focus on their own lives? Their jobs, the “dream life” that most people chase after?

Is it that women are still accustomed to the idea that men do the hardest and most difficult of works? That the woman takes care of the home, the food, and the son and daughter? Or is it that inequality in 2024 is still the case? After so many years of trying to stop it.

Or: should the question even matter to begin with?

  6. Imagine football players brawling against cheerleaders on the enemy team. Ridiculous. Common sense is evaporating in the West

  7. Man has been fighting from the starting of human race so we have inherited the fighting spirit where as woman were not so they are gentle like flowers

  8. The issue is that German men are not willing to fight. There is no serious military presence to show off and make people proud to join it…
