PL clubs vote for spending cap tied TV earnings of bottom club

  1. PFA have given a response and sound like they opposing it.

  2. Just a note: from what I can find this is only a cap for wages and fees, not the transfer window spending which is still restricted by FFP, unless things like release clauses and buying players count as ‘fees’, and there is a multiplier of 4.5-5x (ive seen both thrown out), which would effectively mean that each prem team would have on average of around 500m to spend on wages and fees for the season.

The current top prem team man u is at just under 240m for this season. No one in europes top leagues even comes close. I am finding it really hard to see how this will change anything unless the bottom teams in the prem get literally no money from TV revenue.

  3. Not trying an ‘I told you so’ whatsoever – I’ve mentioned a cap a few times here and /soccer and /chelseafc and people have always labeled it as ‘stupid.’ I get that part of it is comparing it to a completely different sport.

Now that this is going through, I wonder if people’s minds will change, or will it meet the same resistance that I’ve seen?

  4. I am in favor of this rule for domestic competitiveness. But how will the premier league clubs able to compete with European giants with these caps? It only works if all European teams are capped by same value.

  5. I don’t really see the value in this. I hope it’s a first step, but the issue for me is that it’s not nearly extreme enough. Only Chelsea would’ve violated the spending cap this year and it would’ve only been by around 20 million. Just feel like it should be a bit more restrictive. Welp, hopefully they change it in the future.

  6. Only the city of Manchester and (for some reason) Villa went against this. Chelsea abstained 😂

  7. From what I have read the vote was just to agree to looking into it, any proposal will still need to be voted on for any change to take place

  8. My only gripe is that, at some point, player sales and the money earned is essentially redundant, players going for 100m+ already, and buying those players yourself is going to be difficult
