Ok I’m going to bite bullet and take the shame. Could people explain to me why it’s so dangerous to drive in the middle lane? Just so I understand why i shouldn’t be doing it.

Als iedereen de wegcode al eens zou volgen is het al moeilijk genoeg imo.

I think part of the confusion in this debate is two scenarios being mixed:
– the people against middle lane driving envision an empty right lane and they are absolutely correct that those drivers should move
– the people defending it envision a right lane full of trucks with barely space to fit in, so they’re right to stay in the middle while overtaking that lane of trucks
It’s the middle road (pun intended) that gets a bit fuzzy. Personally, if I can drive at least 20 seconds on the right, I’ll move a lane. That’s about 150m (120 vs 90 truck) which is enough distance to let some people pass and get back without hindering either lane and having to brake. It depends a bit on how everyone is driving though.

Wat deze man zegt is uiteraard niet conform met de wegcode, maar wat ook niet conform is zijn alle mensen die zich hierin druk maken omdat ze ongestoord over de snelheidslimiet willen rijden. Allemaal hypocrieten.
Maar je bent wel omringd door verkeer. je moet letterlijk 360° om je heen in de gaten hebben.
Ik rij ook altijd middenvak, boeit mij geen klote als ik een boete krijg. Rechts kunnen ze dan lekker inhalen en links is de weg naar de klote kkr door al die kut vrachtwagens. Maar ik rij in het algemeen als een kkr debiel die dood wil, dus dit valt wel mee.
Velen , waaronder ikzelf, vinden het nog veiliger om 160 op de linkse strook te rijden, zo doe ik 0 maneuvers van Gent tot Brussel en iedereen blij… /s
Wegcode is bedacht om het verkeer veiliger te maken maar Erwin weet het duidelijk beter.
En ja ik steek u langzaam langs rechts voorbij dan moron.

I dont know where and when yall are driving.
But the vast majority of my driving is done during the morning and evening rush, as i imagine many people do, as there would not be a rush hour if few people did.
And during those, on the vast majority of highways and ring roads, the right lane, is truck after truck after truck after merging traffic, after another truck, after more merging traffic.
With often trucks on the 2nd lane as well trying to over take at 2kph faster.
And in this situation, i see nothing safe about trying to drive on the right lane.
There is nothing safe about switching lanes every 10 seconds, at 30kph slower then the middle lane, in a car that takes a good while to get back to 120kph.
Yes i drive the middle lane, dislike me all you want.
I prefer staying alive.
Zo moeilijk is da nu toch ni. Zo rechts mogelijk en bij camions en inritten middenvak. Helemaal links om die middenvakrijders voorbij te steken of om wat rapper te rijden als er teveel verkeer is.
