Extreme hazing: French Air Force edition.

A young French Air Force pilot has decided to take legal action against his comrades for events that took place almost exactly 5 years ago.

In May 2019, he followed his fellow pilots to the French Air Force Polygon of Solenzara (Corsica). However, he was unaware his colleagues had planned an "initiation ritual" for him! As soon as they arrived at the base, the young pilot was pinned to the floor, tied up and had a bag put over his head. He was then roughly thrown at the back of a pick-up truck and driven away.

He ended up tied up to a gun target in the middle of the polygon… And his colleagues came back, flying their jets and simulating gun runs (with live ammo) in his vicinity .

Stéphane Spet, spokesperson for the French Air Force confirmed an investigation was ongoing and that the culprits will face firm punishment should they be found guilty.

Despite being outlawed, hazing is present in many aspects of French life, from university initiations to armed forces rite of passage. This case, however, seems a little bit extreme!

You mean to say this is not absolutely batshit crazy and not a case for a dishonorable discharge?

He was effectively Kidnapped, tied to a practice target and then shot at by fkn Jets by his team members. That beats anything I have read or seen about Russian military hazing.

  2. Our tank crews have to run around pretending they are a tank in the practice area.

No wait, that’s not hazing, that’s actual tank training here lmao.

  3. I was told a story in my army days:

One drill seargent was fed up with the new recruits and staged a fake execution of them. Having soldiers shoot at them with blanks. Apparently it was pretty convincing and several recruits pissed and shat themselves and some passed out.

I was told that he went to jail for this stunt and was of course dishonourably discharged. I still have a hard time believing that this actually happned.

  4. My great great grandfather (BEF 1916-1919) would have probably beat up Indian soldiers.

  5. Imagine being so fucking awful at shooting, you think tying a person to your target is safe enough for a hazing. What an L.

  6. Nope, here we just send everyone on a death march to weed out the weak ones …

  7. Not even joking: Hazing was the only thing that kept me from serving when I was 18.
