UK police say 14-year-old boy killed in London sword attack • FRANCE 24 English
Benedict Pavo in London Benedict there
was a short press conference about the
incident just a moment ago what more can
you tell
us well this is a very uh rare and now
sad incident five people have indeed uh
been injured well were attacked and
injured by a man armed with a huge sword
this was in the east of London in an
area called hail not uh police as you
say have just been giving a press
conference and they announced sadly that
one of the victims a 13-year-old boy had
died from his injuries now in hospital
so this is effectively a murder inquiry
police say a 36y old man uh was tasered
at the scene and arrested and he is in
custody they say this terrifying
incident does not appear to be Terror
related they were called uh just uh
before 7:00 a.m. this morning local time
uh and initially it was thought that a
car had slammed into crashed into a
building then it seems that the attacker
went on the Rampage climbed garden
fences uh and was then on a roof uh but
the police managed eventually to to
taser him within a sort of a few about
10 minutes or so but of course he’d
already injured uh five people and we
now sadly know that 13-year-old boy has
been injured so what we’re hearing is
that the two of the uh public members of
the public who were injured uh have not
got life-threatening conditions and that
the two police officers uh who are also
not in a life-threatening condition
however will need surgery and what the
police want to emphasize is they need
the footage currently circulating uh and
that has been taken by eyewitnesses
circulating on social media to help them
in their investigation as I said this is
now a murder inquiry uh and they really
want to reassure the community that
they’ve this was you know the man that
attacked uh the members of the public
has been arrested is in custody uh and
there’s no reason to believe that there
will be any further violence there are
reassurance patrols currently with a
large still um area cordoned off indeed
it is truly a tragic story The the
British prime minister has already
reacted to the incident what did he have
to say that’s right uh rishy sunak has
reacted to these attacks saying this is
a shocking incident my thoughts are with
those affected and their families I’d
like to thank the emergency services for
their ongoing response pay tribute to
the extraordinary bravery shown by
police on the scene such violence has no
police uh no place on our streets and as
I said a heavy police presence is there
not just investigating now this murder
inquiry but really trying to understand
the nature of the attack the motive
behind the attack and with these
reassurance patrols it’s hopefully that
people who were traumatized were
terrified at 7: a.m. this morning uh
will help to it will help them to come
to terms it has to be said there is
increased knife crime particularly
amongst youngsters and gangs uh in in
London that sadly is on the increase
what is very rare is a man wielding what
is thought to be a samurai sword
attacking people in broad daylight
Benedict thank you for that Benedict

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!
Commentator: "The police officers want to emphasize that they need the footage…," which means that they want to control the footage and the message, because if the footage is already on social media the police, like everyone else, have access to it. JUST SAYING…
If the authorities want to reassure the public, stop standing in its way from protecting itself.
Hmmm?
