The Duchess of Edinburgh has become the first member of the Royal Family to visit Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion. Sophie met the president and first lady of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky and Olena Zelenska, on Monday morning and delivered a message to them on behalf of the King.

Many people here are commenting on that beautiful dress Duchess Sophie was wearing. As with all clothing choices the Royals wear on official visits, there is meaning behind them.
The pattern of the dress Sophie is wearing is a homage of the traditional colours and floral motifs of Ukraine. Ukrainian folk dancers wear these colours when performing their national dance, the Hopak.
Many people in Canada know this, as Canada has the largest population of Ukrainians outside of the Ukraine, and we have welcomed many refugees in the past, and many more since this war began. 🇨🇦💞🇺🇦
