Since the weekend, I have been following the news regarding this infamous case. I see that everywhere where is published, it depicts the company´s owners as the only responsible. They handle the case in a very romantic way in which they are the bad guys and the cabin owners are just victims. But I asked myself some questions

* Do people do not visit their properties during the building phase? People from the cases presented mentioned that they had visits from the authorities, but they thought it was “nothing”.
* I read some figures and they said that the prices were “not that different” than with a Norwegian vendor. In one case the difference is 900,000 NOK. Wow, perhaps I am poor and consider that a significant amount of money whereas other people don’t. A second case did not disclose the amount but the same, they did not consider a significant difference. If such is the case, then why do not ask for a local vendor instead?
* They did not disclose anything related to the time frames, were they different from other vendors? If the workers were actually working extra hours, you as a buyer should notice in the advances. Or do they really think that it is work that can be done on X time with a regular 8-hour schedule?

Nevertheless, I think that is a bit unfair. Do not get me wrong, of course, I think that such a company has a responsibility and for sure they are and will pay for it. But my perspective is that the buyers, counted in hundreds as today, are also responsible for letting a situation like this continue. The interviews made or at least what they present are very soft towards the owners. You can depict a huge bias.

What do you think about the whole situation and the press handling?

  1. There’s no place I can read about this case without accepting cookies.

So…? They’ve built cabins not up to code, not paid their carpenters minimum wage or what? Both of those are 100% the company and 0% the client in responsibility.

We have laws in what it takes to be a business with employees in Norway. Insurance, no social dumping, etc. Any client should be able to assume that all actors are above board. Might some of them have known about transgressions and by that have some responsibility? Yes. But you would have to PROVE that they knew and to what extent they knew at the time of acting.
