He doesn’t say it’s *just* mental health he also cites *deprivation, poverty, alienation, lack of opportunity, ill health* and I think he’s quite right on this.
The causes of *any* crime are usually complex and numerous – there’s rarely just one solution, one factor that is turning everyone to crime or a particular category of crime. It’s a web of reasons. It’s why for me, *preventing* crime happening **long term** is ultimately the responsibility of government – not the police. In the same way the NHS can’t ultimately, on their own stop obesity.
‘Bear control key to preventing shit in woods, tabloids attack this woke nonsense’
Sadly, proactive preventative measures don’t fit nicely into KPIs.
The amount of money and resources wasted by our short sighted and greedy powers that be is staggering.
Hmmm kind of. Psychotic violence is a thing and is preventable but it can be the first presentation of a psychotic illness which is quite hard to predict. CMHTs and mental health beds are totally stretched beyond reason right now but even then it can be hard argue to get AMPHs to detain people unless it’s clear their illness will make them a threat to others (usually a subjective description).
Other mental illnesses as we describe them, depression etc. are so low in terms of risks to others usually that it’s likely a confounding factor that would lead to violence than the mental illness itself. Not to say they shouldn’t be supported but the other things he mentioned are more important
Crime is never going to stop, so my unpopular opinion is to bring in way harsher consequences for those who commit violet crimes. Probably the only way someone might think twice before acting.
Yeah. Care in the community doesn’t actually work does it? Too many nutters running around.
Making excuses for murderers that do not and will not intergrate with British culture.
