  1. >The two frontrunners to succeed outgoing First Minister Humza Yousaf have held informal talks.

    >John Swinney and Kate Forbes met on Tuesday, according to a spokesperson for Ms Forbes.

    >Both have said they are considering a bid for the leadership, though neither has confirmed they are running.

Potential of Swinney as FM, and Forbes as finance secretary?

  2. Forbes won’t want to take over when they’re going to lose seats, and Swinney won’t want to take over for a long time.

This suits them both. Forbes will hope to step up after the next Holyrood election

  3. Are they pointing at each other and saying “you do it!” ?

Ms Forbes has a young child, and Mr Swinney stood down as deputy FM last year because he wanted more time with his family.

Why would either of them want to give themselves a whole lot of aggravation ?

  4. The sensible outcome is that Swinney sees out this government as FM until 2026 and then retires while the SNP vote collapses.

Forbes as finance minister during that period.

  5. Please let it be Swinney. Will further the unionist cause and set back independence for decades

  6. Why isn’t the deputy leader throwing his hat into the ring ?

  7. SNP trying to crawl back into bed with the greens is mental. Greens were dragging them down something rotten. Needs a clean cut. I’d suggest approaching the Lib Dems. Give them a chance to be relevant. Greens would still back any vote on independence etc.

  8. Conversation = = Lets not be as bonkers as the Two SNP Leaders that were about lately ! !

  9. I hope the talk went something like:

JS: I’ll be running so dont

    KF: ok

  10. Regardless of the outcome, the party needs to heal its internal divides. A Swinney led government that brings Forbes and the right back into government would likely do the most to lead it in that direction, even if it is a certain recipe for opposition after 2026.
