After France, the French far right is coming for Europe

  1. Zemmour has fatally undermined Le Pen in the first round. If he remains in the race, the best she can hope for is to facilitate Valérie Pécresse making the second round. This doesn’t bode well for either Zemmour or Le Pen building to the 2024 EuroParl elections. There will be calls for Le Pen’s head, as this will be her third failure and she’ll likely do worse than last time. Zemmour doesn’t have a party yet, and building one in two years will be difficult.

Moreover, if Pécresse wins, Les Republicains will go into the EuroParl elections strengthened and more able to combat their outflanking from the far right.

  2. *”This is my third personal presidential election but the seventh presidential campaign I have participated in,” Marine Le Pen says, in reference to the four presidential elections her father Jean-Marie Le Pen participated in before she took over the leadership of what was then called the National Front.*

    Good luck with that, Sisyphus.
