  1. “He had successfully argued that despite being a tenant, **he was just a visitor to the council property where he had lived for nine years and the council were the occupier so were responsible for the porch being slippery.**”

    How the fuck

“He added: “You might give me a few pounds for the story, will you?”

We replied that we couldn’t pay him for the story.”

    Bizarre

  2. How did they successfully argue that? Those lawyers deserved more than 20,000 for pulling that one off. The judge must’ve had more then 5 pints that day himself.

  3. Almost 10 years after the fall and 5 years after the initial court judgement, common sense has prevailed. I know the wheels of justice turn slowly but for fuck sake.

  4. >”Sure, five pints is nothing,” Mr Keegan told a reporter. “And they were five quick pints that day too because it was a cold old day. I was only coming from a funeral. I bought a bit of grub as well to come home with. You’d drink a lot more

    Sounds like some lad.

    >But Mr Keegan, who was given €30,000 of the award after the original case, also told our reporter he no longer has the money.

    **Shocked pikachu face**

  5. That article is little bit mean spirited.
The bit at the end. Obviously he’s a bit of a scrounger but no need for that. Kicking someone while they’re down.

  6. Why do the courts award X amount of money pending an appeal?

It really doesn’t make sense because you end up in scenarios like this where he has spent 30k and now more than likely won’t be able to repay it.

  7. “Sure, five pints is nothing,” Mr Keegan told a reporter. “And they were five quick pints that day too because it was a cold old day”

Yes, because if you drink the pints quickly, you don’t get drunk 🧠

  8. Just because he can’t work on the sites doesn’t mean he can’t work

Plenty of courses out there to up skill with. Nothing stopping him getting some admin job somewhere.

I have no pity for this chap. He is a scrounger

  9. Will the judge who originally awarded the settlement be reprimanded or asked to account for his decision in any way?

It seems to me that judges have no accountability and answer to no-one in this country. Sick and tired of reading about lenient sentencing, outrageous injury claim settlements and the bollocks that is prison terms “being served concurrently”

I understand we can’t be second guessing every decision made by a judge, and there has to be a separation between the justice system and government. But judges have a lot to answer for in terms of our weak stance on crime in this country IMHO.

  10. They should the deduct the outstanding money from the salary of the judge who originally awarded it.

Our legal system is just a scam scam scam!

His lawyers also paid 20k for their troubles!

  11. What is the deal with these massive payouts? Does any other country in Europe have these payouts for what appears to be (in a lot of cases) people just being thick.

Also the council house in which he’s lived in for 9 years he was just a “visitor” and the council are someone responsible for his porch being slippery? Not to mention he’s spent the 30k and will never pay a cent back while the whole time staying in the same house he’s been “visiting” for 9 years.

    What a fucking country

  12. > The former construction worker suffered a fracture to his left distal tibia and fibula in the fall and said he has had four operations on his leg since and can no longer work. He is currently on disability payments.

Someone fucked that one up pretty badly.

  13. Excellent, I’m going to slip on the parents porch. Sue them, and get myself a deposit for a house.
    Everyones a winner.
Insurance will cover any costs I’m sure.
