> This is the second time the three groups – Friends of the Earth, ClientEarth and the Good Law Project – have taken the government to court over its climate plans.
All of these groups are doing some fantastic work to hold the government to account. Especially the Good Law Project. This is an important win and should be taken seriously. (Another) One for the history books, is this.
Carbon Capture is a bullshit technology. It’s literally designed to give “plausible deniability” to fossil fuel companies.
In reality we need to shut them down, oil first and then gas, and replace them with wind, solar, nuclear, maybe tidal and other tech eventually.
Very glad to see that the court agrees and this was ruled unlawful.
Rishi Sunak will soon pass a law declaring carbon good for the environment.
Cue Sunak proposing the UK leaves the British Justice System via “Jexit.”
Sunak to introduce legislation saying the climate is perfectly safe?
Not a surprise. There really is a complete disinterest from this government in achieving decarbonisation.
Basic example: currently they subsidise 50,000 heat pumps a year. That number needs to be 1 million. What’s the plan to scale up the capacity to do that?
*shrug*.
>”Cutting emissions isn’t only essential to avert the worst of climate breakdown, it will create long term jobs in green industries of the future, boost energy security, bring down our bills and end our reliance on costly fossil fuels.”
I greatly support efforts to slash emissions, but I wish green groups would stop lying like this. It’s not going to bring down our bills – it will do the complete opposite. And we’re going to be reliant on fossil fuels for the foreseeable future for at least some sectors.
Don’t worry, they’ll just have the law changed to make it lawful
If trees convert carbon dioxide to oxygen then we just need to plant more trees. It’s that simple.
Nuclear
Solar
Wind
Wave
Hydro power storage facilities (like power station mountain in wales)
We don’t need to burn coal gas or oil now
I hope the government fights this. They should just change the law, whatever excuse for a law the lobby groups are using in their lawfare, can just be amended.
“We do not believe a court case about process represents the best way of driving progress towards our shared goal of reaching net zero.” Because we don’t want to actually talk about that pesky implementation part, that’s too much like thinking.
Energy storage is the part that isn’t talked about enough for renewables. That buffer between supply and demand makes all the difference. Produce a shit load of energy when available and use it when you need to : but it’s a different model which required strategic and long term thinking. So our politicians are absolutely fucking useless in that scenario. It’s very annoying, as the woman running the National Grid really gets it, but is hamstrung by the dick heads elsewhere in the National infrastructure administration
But…. They will just change the law same as the Rawanda Policy…. Means the square route of Fuck all!
The UK public: “Just fucking leave already you utter shitters. “
Sunak : “Best I can do is wasting money on flights to Rwanda to persecute the persecuted even more”
Just out of interest. The UK manages to achieve Net Zero and reduces world carbon output by 1%. What the f**k does that achieve?
Not a single one of these frankly moronic campaign groups is doing anything about the elephant in the room, that is to say China. Which accounts for about 30% of all world carbon output.
So, what is the point of this pathetic court case ?
Fishy cant stop getting a loss today. Turns up not everyone has a pallate for bullshit like him.
That’s not a problem, just pass a new law and change the definition of climate change
It’s ok, they’ll just over rule it eventually anyways…
