Sunak ‘not interested’ in accepting returned asylum seekers from Ireland

a Ukrainian Refugee plays Irish music at a charity supporting the ever growing number of homeless people in Dublin including recently arrived Asylum Seekers the lighthouse charity is on the front line then of the two issues defining modern Ireland housing and immigration Mustafa volunteers here 4 days a week arrived from Morocco 2 years ago traveled via Britain but didn’t stay there because of the Rwanda policy have you have you met lots of people that have come from Belfast yeah almost like 70 or 80% of all of them come from B oh really the people that you the people that you working with here okay this marries with contested comments made by the Irish Justice Minister last week that the majority of people coming claiming Asylum are coming via Belfast crossing the open border into Ireland in part because of Rwanda not including ukrainians around 15,000 people arrived in the Republic of Ireland last year to claim asylum in the first four months of this year it’s at 6,000 so looks like an increase now according to the minister for justice 80% of that 6,000 arrived from Northern Ireland into the Republic so in other words got on a bus in Belfast and arrived in Dublin at the main bus station here barosaurus most people know to just get a bus from Belfast to Dublin but according to Mustafa those who don’t are exploited by a lucrative racket what’s the most you’ve heard that anyone has paid to get from Belfast to Dublin 1,200 1,220 not even Euro pound something that would cost you 20 on a bus yeah today the Irish government approved legislation to facilitate sending Asylum Seekers back to Britain who’ arrived through Northern Ireland a previous Arrangement had stalled because of Co and an Irish High Court ruling Banning returns because of the Rwanda policy despite objections from London according to the thuk today it was ready to go back online what I’ve said very clearly is the British government has acknowledged that there are operational Arrangements in place I welcome that fact I’m very clear that those operational Agreements are in place under the common travel area and I’m very clear that we’re going to legislation to have absolute Clarity so that it can work but I’m also really clear that it’s only one of a number of things we need to do and I think the more significant thing that’s been done in recent weeks is not actually the legislation today but is the faster processing time the Irish government don’t have a good record when it comes to deporting failed Asylum Seekers it was also announced today that 100 additional Irish police will be freed up to enforce deportations says no Ireland is learning the hard hard way that managing immigration properly is expensive and politically complicated and according to the man who runs the lighthouse charity it only works if everything is working for everyone so where it impacts us underground is when your mom goes to the doctor and the doctor has a waiting list now of two months where before she would have seen him in two days but because of all the people coming in and the housing problem all Earth there’s now huge demands on the services so if we could sort of partner together get all the people around the table and say let’s improve the infrastructure I don’t think the Irish Community would would um be as loud you know you’re saying the far right I don’t think we’d object in this corner of Dublin Civil Society is rising to the challenge of these complex problems trying to drown out discordant notes

Some of the missing asylum seekers we heard about earlier could be in Ireland, where politicians have raised questions over the number of people arriving from the UK to avoid deportation to Rwanda.

Today, the Irish cabinet approved emergency legislation to return asylum seekers to the UK, who’ve arrived through Northern Ireland.

But Rishi Sunak has said he is “not interested” in accepting them back.

  1. £1200 to get from belfast to Dublin,I live in Belfast and nobody is ever asked to show I'd to get on a bus,so why are they paying this huge sum,and if they're refugees then where are they getting that money from, lies lies lies

  2. Came from the EU and transited the UK to get back into the EU. Can’t see the issue ? Ireland banged on about having open borders, holding the UK hostage during Brexit negotiations!! They have exactly what they demanded. Enjoy

  3. No one wants these illegal migrants, and they get dumped in UK… The billions of taxpayers money it's costing to cope with this crisis is colossal, the NHS is desperate for that money…
UK need more housing, doctors surgeries, schools, dentists, policing to cope with the millions flooding the UK…
Any one who cannot see this crisis is crippling the UK economy must be blind.

  4. When France takes the migrants back the U.K will do the same we are playing E.U rules after all what comes around goes around.

  5. The UK doesn't want to take back supposed asylum seekers from Ireland. In just the same way, France doesn't want to take back asylum seekers from the UK. What goes around comes around

  6. Pardon my ignorance? But how did those illegal migrants get to Northern Ireland in the first place from the UK, they couldn't have got on Ferries that easily as you need travel identification for all journeys.

  7. Why would we accept them back, when the EU doesn’t accept them back into France. The EU are a joke! Thank god we left them and don’t have to follow their orders anymore 😂

  8. The very same solemn promises to stop illegal immigration were made by the very same establishment Tories a decade ago. Nonetheless things have got progressively worse, which can only mean uncontrolled immigration is a definite and unchanging policy that has comes from the very top. Why? Simply to divide and dilute the quality of the native populations knowing full well that a nation divided is a nation half concurred, and that in any language is high treason against the people of this country.

  9. I say, you young men in the dingy posing as children. Now just you walk up the beach and you’ll find the welcoming delegation of Rishi Sunak the Home secretary his mandarins, along with the leaders of all the political parties who are just clamoring to get your vote. So welcome to freebee land and remember when voting, which party made your illegal immigration possible.

  10. Britain isnt a safe cointry for illigal criminals. They will be sent to Rwanda, so its best if the Irish send them to another EU country like france !

  11. The british rwanda plan was made to force the assylum seekers to ireland it was smartly played by the british gov and irish gov didnt see it coming

  12. GUYS, 700 migrants crossed the channel yesterday, 700 in just 1 day, record high this year, this is ridiculous, vote reform

  13. I understand people need to evacuate a warzone, but Ukraine is twice the size of Germany and there are very safe areas in Ukraine for Ukrainians to live.

  14. The way 'the Rwanda plan' is working is it makes it impossible for a migrant to be in the 'asylum seeking process' without also 'identifying themselves' for 'detention and deportation to Africa'.
So, migrants are now being forced to discontinue their claims, go underground in the UK or move to another country. As soon as the first planes take off with reluctant passengers the UK's 'overt' migrant problem will fade away.

  15. In Australia a woman was brutally assaulted in a home invasion by a Kuwaiti “refugee”. Kuwait hasn’t been at war since the Iraqi invasion in 2003. 90% of these people, whatever country they go to, are having a laugh claiming to be fleeing war and persecution.
