Sadiq Khan is a failure – he thinks machete gangs are only on TV, blasts James Cleverly

Home Secretary um appalling scenes on the Streets of London yesterday but scenes of absolute heroism from our police can I get a reaction to that yes well look uh the terrible loss of life particularly of a child is is is always uh awful uh but the police acted swiftly uh responded quickly and the officers displayed huge bravery in confronting uh an armed person on the Streets of London I’ve had an update from the commissioner of the Met police uh on those officers who were injured and I I have so much admiration for their decisiveness and their courage uh in light of what uh has happened what is it how is it that someone can roam the streets of London with a blade of of that size c b this morning said that there’s you’re looking at further restrictions on S sale of Swords is that me well we’ve we’ve we’ve already put a whole range of legislation in place there’s more coming through in the criminal justice bill with regard to weapons take the uh zombie knives of course it is already illegal uh to carry uh a bladed weapon like that uh on the streets um but as I say the the response from the police was incredibly Swift um but the you know the tragedy is heartbreaking sadik Khan uh mayor of London um said critics of said to critics that saying that masachi kme was out of control in London had been watching too much wire look I’ve publicly been critical of what I believe to be a failure of the mayor to take violent crime in London seriously enough I think comments like that uh betray an unwillingness to be really honest about the increase in knife crime uh in London across the whole of the country it is trended downwards but London it has increased by something region of uh 20% this is something that I’ve raised with him directly and hearing those comments uh as I say in my mind re Force the fact that he is not focusing on the things that he as mayor of London as the police and crime commissioner for London should be concentrating on

James Cleverly blasted Sadiq Khan for dismissing fears of machete gangs just a week before the terrifying sword attack in Hainault.

The Home Secretary accused the London Mayor of being in denial about knife crime in the capital.

He told our politics show Never Mind The Ballots: “Across the whole of the country knife crime has trended downwards.

“But in London it has increased by something in the region of 20 per cent.”

Mr Cleverly’s comments come after Tory mayoral candidate Susan Hall challenged Mr Khan over “gangs running around with machetes” last week.

  1. Knife crime in Braintree where james hypocrite Cleverly is MP is a major problem. We've had more knife crime since this idiot has been MP than ever before. His a bad joke.

  2. They're always in denial . Because they don't live in the same world as us the public so don't have exposure to any violent crime . But they can Rob us blind daily 👍🏾👍🏾

  3. Wtf is a zombie knife stop taking US terminology. Also more restrictions makes no difference at all if anything it's only getting worse a knife is a knife simple as that ignore these dumb idiots saying zombie knife. That term is used by the atf in America to try and make ghost guns sound more scary. Absolute idiocy

  4. This isn't a tory vs labour thing, you are actually pathetic if you think labour cares about you or will do anything to help they are the same parties controlled by the same people with the same goal. We need a new honest caring party.

  5. Making a law against something does not, by itself, stop people from doing that thing. If that were so, speed cameras would be unnecessary, as would courts, prisons and indeed the police themselves. All a law does is enable the enforcers to identify perpetrators and detain them, enable the process of the courts then legitimise the punishment of the offender. In order for this system to act as a deterrent, it has to be seen by potential offenders to actually work. Maybe if the authorities, whoever they are, stopped politicising everything and focussed on effectively implementing the system and making it well known that it is being rigorously applied, the law might have a that effect.

  6. All that Harry Cole does is cosy up with his mates in the Tory party in these interviews and tries to catch out the Labour party when Starmer was on but only went to prove he doesn't understand how the law works. I thought Murdoch might have actually ordered them to switch sides such is the electoral disaster of Rishi Sunak.

  7. Machette are the weapon of refugees for coconut suger cain ect so why are people surprised when they get used?
Blame the government, not the people who use them ?
They are one to blame for injury to the offices.

  8. Tory cuts to policing, healthcare and adult social care is why these types of incidents are spiking. You can’t hold the Mayor of London responsible for a single psycho with a sword.

  9. Hes part of the problems him along with those believing that his way is the right way because its definitely not.he along with others have destroyed England and others have just watched and done nothing why has England and the people have to constantly have to deal with every one else's problems they come to England with the problem they left behind but deal with them here . haven't England had enough to deal with. The British people are ignored about everything theres more help and support for those coming in we have been told that we can no longer celebrate our traditions or sing teach our religion because it offends others and this country has allowed it they came for a better life safety from a country they had to run from but all thats happened is they brought there country and belief traditions with them and were told deal with it .they see England as weak a laughing stock because here they get everything but no British person could go to their country and expect the same treatment .but along the way the British people needs and support have been forgotten

  10. Not all officers acted bravely as we clearly saw one officer pushing his fellow officers forward whilst hiding behind them. The bravest of them all had to be the female officer who ran forward first more than willing to put herself in harms way. When you don’t have to face reality why would Khan let it bother him, how many knife wielding lunatics are any of these toffs living it large ever going to encounter whilst we the people are expected to put up with it? I can absolutely guarantee the answer is 0.

  11. So if I am practicing martial artist and I need a sword to do my martial arts with is it illegal for me to now walk about the streets carrying a sword for my martial arts or if I am part of a re enactment group and I need a sword to re enact The Battle of Hastings for example is it now illegal for me to own and carry a sword ? If it’s in a suitable case?
