Were pro-Palestinian demonstrators infiltrated by outside groups? | DW News

in the United States President Biden says he won’t be sending in the National Guard to deal with a wave of student-led protests against Israel’s war against Hamas Biden says demonstrators have the right to protest peacefully but not to cause chaos Crews have been cleaning up at the University of California’s Los Angeles site hours after police removed barricades and began dismantling a pro Palestinian protest camp in the early hours of Thursday officers arrested dozens of demonstrators in the pre-dawn raid after protesters defied orders to leave more than 2,000 people have been arrested on University and college campuses across the US in the last two weeks alone before the sun had even risen police moved in to tear down the barricades stun grenades rang out and smoke filled the air as officers forced the protesters back after several hundred defied orders to leave the area once through the defenses the police set to work destroying the tents students been camped out in for days and making arrests other demonstrators watched and recorded as the encampment was torn apart and taunted officers for their slow response to an attack by pro-israel counter protesters the night [Applause] before where were you yesterday for them to come out the next night to remove us from from the encampment after they felt absolutely no obligation or duty to protect the first night it it doesn’t make any sense but it also makes all the sense in the world I’m not surprised the camp at the University of California’s Los Angeles campus is just one of dozens that have sprung up across the US students have been demanding their University sever Financial ties with companies linked to Israel and its War efforts but critics have accused the pro pal inian activists of intimidation and anti-Semitism President Biden has now weighed in defending the right to peaceful protest but accusing the demonstrators of causing chaos back we are not an authoritarian Nation where we silence people or squash descent the American people are heard in fact peaceful protest is in the best tradition of how Americans respond to consequential issues there’s the right to protest but not the right to cause chaos people have the right to get an education the right to get a degree the right to walk across the campus safely without fear of being attacked authorities say order has now been restored at UCLA with over a 100 protesters arrested police remain stationed at the scene to stop anyone trying to come back to rebuild the encampment Katarina VM is a correspondent for Germany’s public broadcaster she has the latest now from the UCLA campus in Los Angeles well what we clearly see is there is not a camp anymore um actually actions took place yesterday evening uh the police called the protesters to disperse uh which they didn’t do um and that basically led to a lot of arrests 210 arrests in total um that’s what LAPD said today and now actually throughout the day there was just a big cleanup movement and so actually all the tents are gone everything is gone so basically nothing really leads to the Assumption there was even a protest camp and uh police seems to be remaining here on the UCLA campus also courses um the students can’t really go back to studying even tomorrow um there is the open question if campus life is going back to normal or it has maybe to wait until next week now you were on hand for that police action and there have been some suggestions that the demonstrators were actually infiltrated by outside groups what exactly did you see well actually we saw a lot of different groups there were of course students who were protesting in these camps the prop Palestinian uh students were protesting then there is this group that came in on Tuesday night to Wednesday and there is this open question of who these agitators were who basically attacked the camp that’s what all the students told us here um it is unclear right now if this was like a student L Pro uh Israeli demonstration if these were Outsiders um there is actually an investigation going on from LAPD but also from the campus because there’s also been accusations to um the campus to The Faculty that they have responded way too late to um basically disperse the protests and to try to um not let to get the violence go ahead as it was we had 15 at least 15 people who were wounded uh one person probably in uh going to a hospital um these actually um it varies from who you ask the protesters or police but basically there’s a lot of open questions still um and investigations still be going on and of course those open questions are having a uh some political effects as well this is ramping up the pressure on President Biden so tell us just how much pressure is the US president currently facing because of these protests well the pressure is of course because of the elections he wants the young voters he wants the voice of the young voters but they are very very upset with the politics of Joe Biden um they’re calling out his Israel politics but as he CL said clearly in a press conference just today is that these protests will have no effect on the Israel politics so far but still uh the pressure remains on President Biden throughout all the campuses here in the United States who are uh who are facing protest they’re still still some encampments uh maybe not here in UCLA but still a lot of different universities throughout California and the East Coast especially um and we will see I think the pressure will remain on President Biden all right that was journalist Kim in Los Angeles thank you very much for your reporting and in the midd East Hamas has said it will send another delegation to Cairo for more ceasefire talks that’s as the Palestinian milit group continues to study an Egyptian proposal to end the fighting in Gaza Israel’s war cabinet has also been meeting to discuss the true steel as well as plans for a ground offensive on the southern gazen city of Rafa as those negotiations continue the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains dire even as more Aid has entered the besieged territory in recent days Aid is continuing to trickle into the strip bya airdrops while on Wednesday Israel reopens the only Border Crossing into Northern Gaza for Aid humanitarian groups had been urging Israel Israeli authorities to let supplies enter via The era’s Crossing for months now the UN has warned repeatedly that gazin are desperately short of food and other essential supplies with Northern Gaza in particular on the brink of famine British surgeon K daas has just returned from a trip to Gaza where he was working with emergency medical teams from the International Rescue committee and Medical Aid for politi Indians we asked him earlier why he left his practice in London to head into a war zone the pictures that we all saw the I think the suffering that we see on TV and that we’d heard stories about uh were a great PLL I I’ve been going to Gaza for a number of years as a chair of an educational charity that works with the medical schools in in Palestine overall and the this when this happened clearly there was a big draw I took my annual leave from work and decided to go for a couple of weeks in uh December January and then went again back in April I think when you go there you realize what the need is it’s huge and and anything that I can do and many of my colleagues feel the same way we would be more than happy to provide here’s a brief look now at some other stories making headlines around the world turkey is suspending all trade with Israel anara says the measures will be in place until Israel allows an un interrupted insufficient flow of Aid into Gaza Israel’s foreign minister responded by accusing Turkish president rup Ty erdogan of breaking trade agreements Israeli cats posted on social media saying quote this is how a dictator behaves

  1. "Outside agitators" was a trope used by fascist war mongers in the '60's to attack anti-Vietnam War protests. The violence was by the pro-genocide Israeli assets, their tactics are similar to those used in the past by the JDL terrorists.

  2. Expression of position through protests is cool (thats the essential basics for democrathy) but still not sure if imposing it on others (e.g. by preventing them from entering the university) is correct

  3. It is Pro Peace Protest and not only Pro-Palestinian, In English language Cease Fire means Ending of a conflict and start a Dialoge. Those who are against a cease fire are the one who support wars.Words like barricade, Antisemitism to accuse a young elite of young people is not a polite retorical journalism.

  4. The thing that amazes me.

U.S.A, which is even now the strongest country on this planet, their citizens can't even protest against the government of a foreign country on their own territory!

This is simply pitiful, how far America has fallen!

  5. It took couple of years for Palestinians to realise they were occupied, they had no say or rights.

But it takes Americans(other than politicians) forever to learn they are also occupied.

  6. If the demonstrators are peaceful either the police or the Israeli secret service infiltrate among them to create chaos and the police uses that as the excuse to arrest demonstrators and end demonstration against Israel by force !

  7. I can't really imagine what protest that celebrates government would look like.
In this day and age of government preassuring and compiling internet databases it's very dangerous to protest. You could do a serious crime and you'd get due process and (importantly) a clean slate at the end of a certain period. You get neither here. And, of course, the government is much more interested and vested at some guy shouting let's go Brandon than, say, a random car robber.

Netanyahu: "Once we squeeze all we can out of the United States, it can dry up and blow away."

"To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize" Voltaire

  9. They already seen the wife of a known terrorist hanging out with the Columbia protesters….why is that being tolerated? I've never seen the USA so lax.

  10. Why is that this keeps repeating over and over again? The right to protest?! What a joke. When a protest starts to have an effect they find a way to dismantle it… this democracy we keep hearing growing up is BS.

  11. USA is the police state??? Almost like Russia ? N.Korea ?

The U.S just passed a bill making any criticism of Israel no matter how minor a hate crime.

You will either see this as a very good thing or a very bad thing…

  12. No. they were not influenced by anything except their consciousness. Only rotten genocidal journalists claim otherwise

  13. I have seen many interviews and some don't know why they are protesting and many flat out deny that anything happened in Israel on 7 October.

  14. Shame on this report, the outsiders were groups and organizations supporting terror groups…. Pro-terrorist protest was correctly dismantled by police
