If I email my brother and happen to mention, say, Tana French’s new novel, within seconds I find adverts on my online newspaper sites, ads and videos on Youtube, all to do with Tana French. (Probably would be the same with Facebook and Instagram.)
If one’s every thought is traceable and linkable like this, you’d think possessing unlawful material out in the community like this would be easy enough to sniff out. I mean, if manpower permitted, officers could track users back from a proscribed image, if you see what I mean.
As for sentencing, well it’s always going to be ‘harm to human’ vs ‘loss to property or commerce’, isn’t it, and the latter wins hands down, always. If you spend money on a quarter of dope instead of on a few pints, there’s a powerful lobby who wants you to be dissuaded from it. So you are shoved into chokey at the drop of a hat, no matter how ashamed, repentant, or great at hurling you are. But desecrate a child, rape a woman, and the judge will bend over backwards to find mitigation so they can spare you a custodial sentence.

For everyone complaining about Nolan, I am currently listening to the Inside The Crime podcast by Newstalk. The first season is about the Sharon Whelan murder, and goes into hoe Irish judges have to give sentences, what they need to take into account and what they can or can’t do. Our legal system has certain restrictions around sentencing that are different to the UK and US.
This heinous shit is actually becoming a weekly occurrence now and it’s making me sick. This country is fucked
This sub-reddit talks about him a lot but had never really laid attention. Quick Google and holy shit, who is pulling his things and what heinous shit has he done himself.
