  1. I just became a citizen this week, but had permanent residency. I wasn’t sure if this was an election I was eligible to vote in, but showed up to double check anyway. I was not.

I have registered properly so I can vote in the upcoming general election, though!

  2. Truly no hope for South Wales. We’d vote for a pig with a red rosette. Meanwhile things keep getting worse for us, despite a Welsh Labour government for the last god knows how many years.

  3. It’s the first “election” in over 20 years where I haven’t bothered voting. Had no information at all about any of the candidates so would only have been voting based on a name or the party they represent. I also don’t think the PCC should be linked to a political party.

  4. Annoyingly low turn out. Police is not devolved so England attached the PCC election to their local election so Wales had to follow suit. This would usually be attached to a broader election to increase voter numbers

  5. My husband and I thought it was weird how excited the voting polls ladies were to check us in. Now it makes perfect sense, we might have been the first people to see them that morning.

  6. As a cop myself, I was unable to vote due to the fact that I started an extremely busy shift before the polling station opened, and didn’t finish until it had closed. Couldn’t even vote for my own PCC because of the job itself. We just have a dogshit electoral system, full stop. It needs to be made better, it’s archaic and doesn’t suit the needs of many people now, particularly those that work.

  7. I literally didn’t hear anything about these elections until polling day.

If anything I’m surprised the turnout is this high

  8. Bit of a clickbait headline. Took me a second read to realise that he’s not referring to turnout.

  9. PCCs, Mayors… ect

It’s to shift blame away from Westminster so they can scapegoat these officials

  10. The problem with PCC’s is that we all know they are a waste of time and money. Of course policing is political and whether the direction comes from the ruling party in the senedd or from the PCC makes little difference apart from the extra cost to us

  11. Because no one rightly cares. Its a meaningless role and serves to put old politicians in charge. Big whoop

    Nothing is better, only worse.
