  1. A pregnant woman has died after having to carry a dead foetus in her womb for over a week.

A similar case last autumn, when a pregnant woman died after doctors refused to terminate her foetus despite it being diagnosed with fatal birth defects, prompted mass protests against the abortion law.

The family blamed the hospital for the tragedy, saying Agnieszka had been forced to carry a dead foetus for seven days because doctors did not want to remove it for fear of harming its twin.

  2. Sheesh , that’s an absolute horror

all responsible for denying of this medical procedure must be sent to jail for a lifetime

  3. It seems the more Europe helps Poland emerge from communism, the more it emerges as chauvinistic, conservative, and totalitarian. It’s like perhaps we never really knew it at all.

  4. “[…] our doctors took all the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic measures, but unfortunately, the patient’s condition made it impossible to save her life.”

And by “the patient’s condition” they mean the infection caused by the dead body they left in her for over a week. Assholes.

  5. Once again another person died because of our *lovely* laws that are enforced by *the best* people in whole universe

  6. Catholic version of sharia law, well done Poland, you are going straight back to 14th century.

  7. The actual fuck. I thought (hoped) it would be a spam repeat of last years case. Things have to change or Poland’s membership in the EU must be questioned.

  8. I’m from Poland and this issue bother a lot many Polish women. Unfortunately it happens and will continue happening because of the anti-abortion policy of our right-wind conservative party PiS (Law and Justice). This is not the only case, there’re much more deaths took place in Poland. International community should do something with it to prevent other lethal episodes from happening

  9. This is stupid, just get in the car and drive to Germany straight to the first emergency unit. Politicians have blood on their hands.

  10. This is pissing me off. There is a serious misunderstanding of what an abortion is. An abortion is the removal of a live foetus. And then there are operations to remove dead infectious tissues. The techniques are similar but they are not for the same thing! I say this as someone who had a missed miscarriage and carried my dead foetus for 4 weeks (yes it can happen. Lots of women only discover it at their 12 weeks scan as there are no signs). Luckily for me it wasn’t infectious. I just wish miscarrying wasn’t a taboo subject and was talked about more. People would know the difference and stop calling operations for them abortions when they are not!

  11. “After the death of the first child (on 23 December 2021), a wait-and-see approach was adopted as there was a chance to save the second child,” it said in a statement issued to Onet.

A yes, the famous “wait and see” approach that is very popular in healthcare
