  1. We live in a democracy but there are red lines that no one should be allowed to pass.

    Welcome to the new coldwar.

  2. Good that the govt acted quick. Hope the CEOs will get the hint that either they cancel or their relationship with their own government will be damaged, costing them a lot more in the long run than the quick bucks they would make in Russian business.

  3. Considering that probably half of the government take money from him I see this as a competition issue

  4. Good on the Italian government. I hope that it will have some impact, but I’m sure the cronies will find a way around it.

I read that the U.S. threatened to sanction Putin personally. I wonder if this meeting has anything to do with that.

  5. a brave representative called Tifa something first pushed for this in the italian senate.

It’s a heartwrenching speech, make sure to check it out. Just google something like “tifa italian senate”

  6. Omg Italian mega-corp CEO’s – WTF. Do not side with mobs, aggressors, fascists and oligarchs. Thank you government for stepping in, let’s hope they comply.

  7. Pirelli to supply Russian APCs with rubber.

If they opt for softs, we might get some advanced degradation by Kiev.

  8. People have a lot of time and energy for this. What are they going to say when tensions with China ramps up? Because in the past, if you weren’t doing business with Europe or North America you were frozen out of the global economy. Now it will just mean Europeans cutting themselves off.

In case people need reminders, when the sanctions in 2014 happened, the rest of the world rushed in to fill the void. They didn’t join in solidarity with Europe at all.

  9. If you really think those companies won’t have “unofficial” meetings you’re beyond naive :))

  10. > Energy infrastructure company Snam decided on Tuesday evening not to attend the meeting, before the government’s move, while energy giant Eni said on Tuesday evening it wouldn’t take part.

What steps is current Italian government taking in order to keep the prices of energy reasonable for the populace and to cut down unemployment? Last I checked energy prices have skyrocketed in recent years/months and unemployment is almost 9%.
