  11. If you read the [original Le Monde article](https://archive.ph/cyDiL) a lot more context is given. At the first bank, armed groups blew up the safes and took the equivalent of 29 million Euros. The next day bank employees went to a second larger bank in order to protect the money. There they found:

    >… when they opened the doors of the agency, they came across a commando waiting for them. These men claimed to be “of the highest authorities in Gaza”, according to the document, a formula that designates Hamas.

    What is left out of the Times of Israel article is:

    >According to our information, these armed groups are not the only ones to have broken the bank’s reserves. The Israeli army itself seized in the enclave a large amount of money belonging to the institution. Its leaders are waiting for a long Israeli administrative process to complete for these funds to be returned to him. Israeli media reported in February that the amount confiscated was several tens of millions of dollars and that the operation aimed to prevent Hamas from getting its hands on this amount.

    Individuals on here are free to speculate whether this is a Hamas reaction to the IDF seizing bank funds or whether these were the acts of criminal gangs or a mixture of both. My intention is only to provide more context to a Times of Israel article that appears to omit a major part of the story.

  32. It says most of the stolen money is Israeli Shekel. I see from videos in Gaza the most common is still the Israeli Shekel. What I don’t understand is why the Shekel is still much in use in Gaza, I thought Israel had stopped all trade with Gaza.
