Original photo showing Women who’s in the Soviet/Red Army during WW2. It looks like she’s decorated with the Order of the patriotic war. The writing on the back translates to “For a fond memory in years of war to my friend Lyudochka from her friend Ania 1945”

Why is it in r/europe?
She was likely a sniper; the Soviets had a belief that women were capable of better deliberation and thus more suited to the arduous task of waiting patiently for the perfect shot.
They were often given poor equipment, as were essentially all Soviet troops, but they were often saved from the brutality of frontline combat and were typically placed in defensive positions.
Aaaaand I’m hearing Sabaton’s song “Night Whitches”. Well done.
So sad, that most of them had to hide their medals and fact that they were in army after the war, because general public loved to accuse them of being whores who went to the army to fuck around. Only decades later were they acknowledged for their sacrifice.
