King and Queen See the Official Coronation Roll for the First Time

uh may I present your coronation role so please do um it’s extremely yes it’s 30 pages and what we’ve treding to do is to honor the traditions of the role but also do a few things to embrace modernity as well um so this is the title page which although William and Mary did have a title page uh it will didn’t have the same amount of um illustration as this does and then as you’ll see when we show you the historic roles these um the colors are drawn from uh Edward II’s role which is the earliest surviving role and this format is exactly the same as her late Majesty it’s in English as Liv it was in a mixture of ancient Norman French in the medieval period but I’m riveted I just read that um after 1308 II there are no was quite a lot of missing on this all the way through it’s extraordinary I think there’s that this is going to be the 18th role who disintegrated possibly yeah possibly and they’re all held in the National Archives we’ve got a few to show you so is it’s all actually sound so so these are it’s stitched together so it’s it’s paper so it’s not there’s no animal uh product involved and they they’re sewn in What’s called the chery Stitch so there’s 30 pages and something like 11 ,600 words and then literally rode up R and it’s well so you’re about to meet the heraldic artist who’s done that and then the craer we just do a I was really sure this paper been used since the medieval period And there are still surviving examples of it so it should last for a few hundred years and then we’re going to show you the um the procession because what we’ve done that was slightly different to previous roles is the pages and you got it wrong you search it back again exactly didn’t dare we’ve had we’ve had so many people check it I’m very much hoping and the underlining in red is that a particular [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] sing it around and launching it on Friday fantastic there’s a lot of detail that’s the great yeah absolutely we’ve uh worked with a lot of different organizations to pull in I’m just going to walk to the right in a moment is [Music] so go to that box and startop [Music] [Music] people they’ll come here and look at that and then they’ll meet the artist the you
