Who on earth would be this gosh dang stupid?
A random story…I like to vacation in weird little places. One time it took me to a strange little spit of land called Cayman Brac. My son and I are fishing at the shore when this tiny boat constructed of tar and plywood and containing about 20 men came cruising in to shore. The dudes are singing and waving their arms and generally about as happy as one can be. It took me a moment to realize these were Cubans greatly risking their lives given the hand made crappy boat they had just crossed a dangerous ocean in, seeking a better life. I can only guess how bad their lives must be to take the risk in that leaky tub.
I only share the story to say how Russia is praying on the vulnerable and desperate. Not many around here want to give any quarter to any of the folks who end up in Russia fighting against Ukraine. And I am generally in agreement. But I have been to rural India (another place where fighters have been lured from) and seen Cuban boat people. And so I can understand the desperation these people might feel to be lured into terrible mistakes that will likely lead to their deaths.
