**…how Russia uses electronic warfare and tricks precision weapons:**
The precision weapons of the Germans and their Western partners work with the help of GPS and are therefore very accurate. “This is exactly where Russia comes in with electronic warfare,” says expert Lange. The Russians are able to “jam” GPS signals, i.e. interfere with ammunition “so that it no longer knows where the target is and therefore hits somewhere else”.
Another possibility is so-called “spoofing”. “This means making the ammunition believe that the target is somewhere else and then it flies in the other direction and doesn’t hit the target.”
Lange believes that the Russians have “very powerful systems when it comes to these techniques”. This impairs the efficiency of Ukrainian artillery. It may be possible to make certain types of ammunition less susceptible to these manipulation attempts with the help of software updates or by changing frequencies while the ammunition is searching for the target.
>This is an ongoing process and unfortunately the precision ammunition that we supplied to Ukraine is no longer as effective due to this disruption.
**…why Russia is currently attacking the city of Odessa on a regular basis:**
Military expert Lange calls this the famous Russian “brotherly love”, about which there are many dark jokes: “‘What I can’t have, I’ll break.’” The fact that Odessa and Kharkiv in particular – cities of which the Russians propagandistically claim that the people there are actually Russian – were bombed in such a way makes people sit up and take notice.
“To terrorize people like this, to shoot everything to pieces, to bomb, to indiscriminately fire missiles and drones into civilian neighborhoods… It’s a strange kind of affection that Russia is trying to express.”
However, it also shows frustration on the Russian side, according to Lange.
The truth is also that after more than two years of war with extreme effort, a conversion of the economy and tough sanctions, Russia has not achieved any of its goals. “Kyiv has not been conquered anyway, but Kharkiv and Odessa are not under Russian control either – and it doesn’t look as if Russia will come close to conquering these cities in the foreseeable future.”
This is reflected in this “destructive rage”.
**…whether and how the war could end soon:**
One consideration in the USA and Germany could have been to provide Ukraine with measured support so that Russia does not achieve its military goals and the war becomes entrenched. “That’s the wrong strategy,” believes Nico Lange.
>This leads to a very long war, where Putin keeps going, making slow progress, but then making progress and slowly destroying Ukraine – starting from the east.
Ukraine needs to be equipped in such a way that it can put pressure on the Russians, says Lange. The strongest industrialized countries in Europe are able to produce more armaments than Russia.
That would be an important signal: “Vladimir Putin, you can do what you want, you can’t win, we will produce more and more produce more and more and help Ukraine more and more.”’ That would be a chance to achieve peace.
>It is embarrassing that the Europeans do not seem to be in a position to do this so far.
War is so incredibly expensive, and at one point taypayers will decide that is just not possible to continue funding the war in Ukraine, not to mention the lack of man power and weapons production capacity. At the end it allways come to the money…
I am going with bike to work, I also don’t feel a thing since electricity was already expensive in Germany, but 100+ Billion $ per year, open end doesn’t look like a viable strategy. At the end they need to sit down on the table a make some kind of peace deal. Sooner, the better
Development of signal-seeking ammunition is underway. Then the tables turn.
