Why do a lot of these sorts of articles invariably veer into “I know theres genuinely no real movement for Indie but maybe if we picked a fight with Westminster enough that they responded, we could gaslight people into thinking everything would be solved by Independence” territory?
Not only has that not really worked out previously (Sturgeon’s court case) but it just feels insulting to criticise the SNP for not trying to start some weird insurrection lol
There were literally hundreds of people at the big all indy supporters march yesterday. Hundreds!
Genuine question… Do Scots really believe in independence? It was handed on a platter without bloodshed and it was close. But is it a thriving agitating movement or is it passive
There’s a problem in that to get the Scottish people to support independence Scotland has to be shown to be economically viable but to get the English people to allow it Scotland has to be shown to be a costly failure.

I hadn’t heard of Neal Ascherson and in case you haven’t: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neal_Ascherson
Tldr: Author/journalist Scot, old, went to Eton.
