5. This law is chat control 2 and it is currently being rushed through the EU legislative process. It was voted down last year, but was instantly reintroduced because it is being lobbied by Europol.

23. I can’t understate how bad of an idea banning encryption in chats is. Especially because it does literally nothing to stop encryption, all it does is make criminals use third party software tools to encrypt their messages and leave everyone else’s information out in the open. It’s as nonsensical as trying to ban HTTPS.
