  1. Author, poet, book collector (100.000 books!), TV host Boudwijn Büch had an obsession for Filfla.

He landed by helicopter on Filfla on 15 November 1988. This was broadcast on Dutch TV in The World of Boudewijn Büch S01E06: From Malta to Filfla (25 December 1988). (full episode is on Youtube – it’s in Dutch though)

He wrote four books on remote islands. And he wrote 33 pages on Filfla in the book “Eenzaam” (translates to: “Lonely”) published 1992.

    Book excepts:

“I stare at that intriguing lump of rock for the umpteenth time in my life. Filfla remains an enigma. The island is a domain for birds. And for a sad bird like me, a place to long for endlessly.”

“and then I see Filfla rising from the sea below me in all its mysterious splendor. Filfla is scarier, higher and lonelier than I thought.”

“I was on Filfla for about five minutes. I experience melancholy. I see Filfla pulling away from under me and I feel sad. Finally I’ve been to Filfla – now what?”
