The Eiffel Tower looking beautiful this January (OC)

  1. You’ve heard of the death star now prepare to witness the full armed and operational death tower

  2. I know different views of the Tower’s EU color scheme has been posted already. This central perspective from the Jardins du Trocadéro isn’t one I’ve seen at least on the first few pages, though I might have missed it. Taken last night.

The colors are celebrating the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

  3. Ah, that laser must be for zapping anyone taking illegal pictures of the Eifel Tower at night of course. The photographer has been very lucky to make it out alive!

  4. Because people keep asking this, no, [it’s perfectly legal to take pictures of the Eiffel Tower at night](https://www.toureiffel.paris/en/news/history-and-culture/10-urban-legends-about-eiffel-tower-debunked), as long as it is not in a professional capacity. (I’m assuming this means monetized).

Furthermore, the European Flag does not belong to the _Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel_, (But the [EU’s governing bodies](https://www.coe.int/en/web/about-us/the-european-flag), unsurprisingly) so in this specific case I would assume even professional use could not be prevented. Though that is certainly not legal advice.

  5. Note that this image constitutes copyright violation.

“Under current French law, it’s not illegal to snap a photo of the illuminated Eiffel Tower — one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations and happy-snap stars. But publishing that photograph or sharing it on Facebook or Instagram could potentially draw the attention of copyright lawyers.

That’s because the tower’s nightly light display, designed by Pierre Bideau in 1983, is classified as a separate “artistic installation,” and protected by copyright.

“The duration of the protection is equal [to] 70 years after the death of the artist,” said Baptiste Laparlière, an assistant for the heritage fund at the Societe d’exploitation de la Tour Eiffel, which manages the historic site. “Pierre Bideau is alive, so we don’t have a deadline for now.””

  6. I could definitely find other ways of decorating it, which would look far more beautiful – and not EU-empire propagandistic – at night.
