Personally I like this whole thing. Elon sucks and I don’t want us to have anything ‘good’ if he has to be involved with it. (LOOKIN AT YOU SPACE-X) Hopefully this will cause a better, more professional and serious company to take up the mission of EV Charging Stations.
I hope some of those 400 engineers and managers form their own company. Tesla’s board is a joke. Tesla has two major advantages over their competitors. They have the best software/software updates and the best charging network. It seems like a self inflicted wound to throw away a competitive advantage like that. The competition ( a few legacy companies and the newer Chinese companies) is catching up to Tesla as far as build quality, interior quality, model refreshes, styling, range, cost, etc. None of them have the charging network. Correct me if I’m wrong but tesla chargers are soon going to open up to some competitors. Isn’t that going to make supercharger stations a shit show if they don’t grow??
We might be seeing a billionaire’s version of rage quit.
I can see this story arc ending with Musk becoming a straight up climate change denier…
Getting to own the pipelines for an electrified future isn’t the worst thing in the world. Unfortunately VC culture moved from stolid investors looking for great investments to men boys looking to help boys get the permanent mommy they want, so we get a decade + of dumb apps to do all things mommy used to do followed now by LLMs you can use as a bestie because you didn’t learn how to make friends (btw that’s not my interpretation, that’s Sam Altman between the lines).
