1. I really hope they do, and in the process make themselves more unelectable than they already are.

2. The problem is all the Tories have left is fear and hate, they can’t run on anything from the last 14 years. The Daily Mail, Telegraph, etc will be working overtime to distract over the next few months, expect endless articles on “fear of the other”.

3. Tories can’t really do anything. If they move to the right then they’ll haemorrhage moderates to the Lib Dem’s and Labour but if they move to the left then the haemorrhage right wing voters to Reform UK.

   The fat lady has been singing for two years at this point and everyone just wants to go home and for it to be over.

4. This isn’t about right or left wing, its about austerity.

   People are going to stop voting tory because they can’t get a GP appointment, or a school place, or any specialist support, mental health provision etc….

   Add in local issues with councils going bust and majority of tory seats are going to change hands.

   If anything, it will be taken as encouragement.

6. A bit late for that seeing as a significant part of their policy platform was confined to the far right 10 years ago. 

   Offshoring refugees to Africa, banning protest, threatening to withdraw from Human rights treaties, making a sustained attack on LGBT+ rights – this is not normal right of centre conservatism.

   The two things famously not done by the far right, lol.

9. The only question is now can the Tory party be finished off for good. There needs to be a massive investigation into their blatant fraud and corruption, core members and donors need to be tried and laws need to be enacted to stop it happening again.

   But we know it won’t happen because Starmer is committed to drinking from the same spoiled well.

12. God this upcoming election is going to suck so bad. The actual results will be hilarious of course, but the campaign is going to the most vile electoral contest in British history by a million miles. Being trans, I’m already prepared to hear over and over again that me wanting to use services I’ve been using for ten years is actually the reason they can’t make the trains run on time.

15. As I said in a different post, I assume the calls from some in the party to drift to the right to stave off Reform will just make it worse for them. We’ll see which advice they end up following.

17. The Tories have failed their right-of-centre voters since 2010. I wish I had a pound for every utterance of the mantra, ‘we will reduce immigration to 10s thousands’.

    They could have done it, they repeatedly said they would. But instead they morphed into Blairites.

    Tory voters had no-one else to vote for for 14 yrs – all they could do is ‘hope’ the Tories would become a proper, right wing party.

    But no – they became just a ‘blue-ish’ version of Labour.

    Our only hope now is Reform. The Reform vote at the next GE will decimate the Tories. But at least right-of-centre voters can start to hope to rebuild at some point in the future. …. Assuming there is anything of the UK culture left after Starmer opens the Islamic flood gates.

18. Too late, they’ve been there for years. It would be good to have some conservatives in the Tory Party to replace the fascists!

19. Echoing what other said. If Tories had a half a brain cell, they could be in power forever.

    The country by and large want center-right politics. So get public services working, get back in the EU for economic prosperity and western-migration, and pedal traditional western values. Boom – I guarantee you will stay in power for decades.

22. The far right can always go further right. A mainstream party has limits on how far right it can go. It’s stupid to try to compete with far right on terms they get to define.

    The biggest lesson for the tories: ignore the far right, ignore Cruella and her tribe of nutters, and return to the centre
