I believe a British republic is at least a generation or two away yet. It’s good to know that the appetite for republicanism has slowly but surely grown in recent years though.
The best thing that happened for their cause was when Queen Elizabeth II died, as a lot of the support for a monarchy was for the late Queen herself.
These folk tend to hate everything British tbf.
Personally I value the benefits the RF provides to the UK and I would not trade positions with them – I’d rather be homeless.
>A 15ft dinosaur called “Chuck the Rex” was the centrepiece of a rally
How can they tell us this but not give us a photo. State of journalism, honestly.
Do we need a monarchy anymore? Keep the palaces and stuff around for historical value and tourism but when they spend half their time having spats, spending money defending each other from paedophilia accusations and being vaguely racist to each other and their staff, I just can’t help but think opening Buckingham palace to tours would literally be more beneficial than having these crotchety old inbreds clattering about in their finery.
Do people not remember that we fought a civil war to remove the monarchy and had to bring it back because it caused a power vacuum?
Countries like France replaced their monarchy with an elected president, like macron. Honestly, I think this is worse. Democracy doesn’t work, we end up with shit candidates who do whatever they please once elected. The monarchy means our head of state has been trained for the role their whole lives. They know how to behave and we have all the laws which means we have a functional head of state that can’t overrule our democracy.
Honestly, with brexit and everything else falling apart and the cultural identity of this country eroding day on day, I cannot see what good comes from removing the monarchy.
as globalism advances, as open borders progress, i like our culture, i would keep them.
