There’s a board by the front entrance to my building. There are some advertisements on it so while now I feel silly I honestly always just thought it was all ads and didn’t bother to look at much in detail until the other day I noticed that it has this the “Hausordnung” which is building rules I guess. I didn’t know about these and only knew of the rules in my lease, my landlady never mentioned these to me before. The thing is I have two cats – when we first met the landlady/owner I told her I had cats – she had lived here before me and also had one. When we first got the lease it said no pets so I had to point it out and she changed it. I moved here 5 months ago but only moved the cats here around 2 months ago. Can I get in trouble/can this be enforced? I don’t think my landlady specifically talked with other people in the building about it ahead of time

If you where not informed about the “Hausordnung” and was handed a copy of it BEFORE you signed the contract it legaly it doesn’t apply to your contract. As it is not part of your contract. Changes to it would not apply to you with out your consent, because you can’t just changr a tenant agreement in germany.
General bans of cats and dogs are nou enforcable.
Band on cats are almost never allowed if they stay in the flat.
This is a common problem with renting contracts in germany as most small landlords have no idear what is legaly required and some don’t care.
NAL but I was a landlord and I fought my former landlord about an after the fact Hausordnung.
This rule bans all small animals except rabbits and birds, as well as cats and dogs. To my knowledge (correct me, please), a rule banning all small animals is void, making the entire sentence void.

General banning isn’t legal.
