Anfang des Jahres gab Julia navalnia ihre Stimme für die russischen Präsidentschaftswahlen in der Botschaft in Berlin ab eine Wahl bei der jede echte Opposition längst von Präsident Vladimir Putin ausgeschaltet worden war nach dem Tod von alexay navalni in einer arktischen Strafkolonie ist die Opposition in Russland so gut wie ausgelöscht doch seine Witwe Julia gilt vielen als navalnis Nachfolgerin eine Rolle die sie eher gezwungenermaßen übernommen hat nur 12 Tage nach dem Tod ihres Mannes sprach sie vor dem EU-Parlament in Straßburg Putin hat meinen Mann Alexi navalni getötet auf seinen Befehl hin wurde Alexi D Jahre lang gefoltert er wurde in einer winzigen steinzelle ausgehungert von der Außenwelt abgeschnitten und ihm wurden besuche und später sogar Briefe verweigert und dann haben sie ihn umgebracht julia navalnia hat eine Ausbildung zur Betriebswirtin und arbeitete bei einer Bank bevor sie im Jahr 2000 Alexi navalni heiratete lange war sie eher eine stille Unterstützerin seiner antikorruptionsbemühung als er mehrmals wegen Anschuldigung des kremmels vor Gericht und im Gefängnis landete wurde sie seine engste politische Beraterin und stand an seiner Seite ihr Bekanntheitsgrad wuchs als navalni im Jahr 2020 vergiftet wurde während ihr Mann in einem Krankenhaus in Sibirien um sein Leben kämpfte richtete navalnia einen offenen Brief an den russischen Präsidenten sie erzeugte so großen öffentlichen Druck dass ihr Mann zur Behandlung nach Deutschland geflogen werden konnte als alexay navalni 2021 nach Russland zurückkehrte verhaftete die Polizei ihn und trennte das Paar für immer lange Zeit miet Julia navalnia das Rampenlicht doch nach der Inhaftierung und dem Tod ihres Mannes schwor sie den Kampf gegen den Kremmel fortzusetzen wladimir Putin hat in ihr eine lautstarke Kritikerin die sich nicht scheut von ihrer Redefreiheit Gebrauch zu machen

Der DW-Preis für Meinungsfreiheit geht dieses Jahr an eine Frau, die fast wider Willen zur Frontfrau der russischen Opposition wurde: Julija Nawalnaja. Die Witwe des in russischer Haft unter ungeklärten Umständen gestorbenen Oppositionsführers Alexei Navalny erhält den Preis für ihr unerschrockenes Eintreten für ihren Mann und die Menschenrechte in Russland.
