Vodafone to switch off UK 3G network by end of 2023

  1. Well I guess that is going to make smuggling burner phones into prison more uncomfortable, otherwise all good.

  2. Vodafone seems to be the very worst network for coverage in Scotland and this won’t help unless they’re planning on improving their mast density.

That said, Three seem to be dragging their heels on 4G coverage here as well which is fucked.

  3. I’m on Vodafone and every time my phone reports “3G” I can’t actually get any data whatsoever and everything just times out.

As far as I’m concerned Vodafone’s 3G has been gone for years. I’m certainly not going to notice any difference when they actually pull the plug.

  4. If I understand correctly, 2G is likely to be supported for several more years, providing voice and SMS support for older phones, GPS dog trackers, etc.

  5. In the my city, 5G seems to be useless. I don’t think it can penetrate the walls. Most the time I float along on 4G or 3G. Even when the phone can see 5G, it often hangs and can’t download stuff. At least 3G always just gets on and works.
