No government in the EU is going to touch the 1% “inappropriately”.
Ah yes, another “it’s the immigrants fault” when the countries that have seen the largest increase in housing prices and rent are all in Eastern Europe. Make it make sense.
He’s 100% right and not just fueling the far-right but also fucking over the economy, people and environment.
Long commutes are unhealthy as hell. People are more dependent on cars if they can’t move close to their workplace. Can’t hire people if they can’t find a place to live. Harder to change jobs. People won’t have kids if there’s no space available to do so and so on and so on.
Built fucking housing, stop letting foreigners buy them as an investment and if governments are too incompetent to do it lessen restrictions and speed up permits so the market can do it.
Did we really need an expert to understand this?
This shows the true motivation some people have for wanting to help other people (“If we don’t fix this problem, the dumb folk will vote into office people I don’t agree with politically.”)
ok, this is just an opinion but i think thats simplistic. If isnt about housing will be about inmigration, if not it will be due economy, if not it will be due to literally anything else.
For example in Spain, far right party Vox got to join local and regional governments. Their campaigns are always about xenophobia, anti-feminism, anti 2030 agenda, and pure national pride.
Fixing housing issues will make people’s minds at ease but there will be many other issues to exploit
The fact that heat pumps are a ‘thing’ in much of Europe and wasnt a thing 60 years ago says so much. As if the quality of housing is so great, no need for air condition. Not even touching on central air, in Europe central air is only for the rich in most countries. When you visit someone in Germany in the summer, even 10 years ago, and you’re being tortured by the heat.. “but our housing is so glorious, it doesnt need it!”
And then you look at what Europeans deem a nice house – made out of brick or concrete. Not wood framed, like whats common in Sweden and Norway. Europe picks the most polluting type of housing over the most earth friendly without blinking an eye.
It’s not just the far right saying this, it’s everyone saying that these things that Europe is 60+ years behind on or like how housing is made, how wood structure is the future.. it’s madness and idiocy.
Fuck the far right and also leftist at the Guardian but this opinion article isn’t wrong.
Not to be the bearer of bad news but building new homes won’t lower the rents by a noticeable margin as the issue is the construction costs of the way homes are currently being built, the cost of land, and the cost of financing.
By the sound of it pretty much fucking everything ”fuels the far right” these days
No. Fix Europe’s housing crisis SO THAT PEOPLE CAN HAVE A PLACE TO LIVE.
So threatening to vote crazy people is working? Nice 👍
