‘Life has become hell’: Lebanon’s Syrian refugees face growing hostility • FRANCE 24 English

Ahmed has been informed by the local police that he must leave his workplace without a valid residency permit this cashier faces deportation back to Syria I’ve been renewing my residency permit for years I submit my documents to the Social Security office before heading to the General Security directorate to file my application today the administration’s on strike there’s nothing I can do about security sources indicate that over 1 and a half million Syrian Nationals are undocumented or do not possess proper paperwork people with a residency permit are welcome in our community those whose documents are not in order must sort out their situation within a month and undocumented refugees must leave within a week the presence of Syrian refugees in Lebanon amounting to about a quarter of the total population represents a significant demographic economic and social upheaval Selma lives in this eastern district of the capital like many other Lebanese she no longer hides her frustration life has become hell the country is overrun by syrians soon Lebanon will belong to them and the Lebanese will be foreigners in their own country we no longer own anything in this country history is repeating itself but with different actors before they were Palestinians today they’re syrians [Applause] why for for to compensate for the lack of security provided by the authorities residents of some localities have formed neighborhood watch groups we find ourselves forced to be on the streets to assist the security forces and the state which is absent in some regions we want security and stability in our neighborhoods at home and at work the rising crimes committed by San refugees has triggered a wave of hostility against them at least two syrians have been killed and several others injured since the beginning of the year

In early April, the murder of a Lebanese political figure, attributed to a Syrian gang, sparked a particularly violent wave of hostility against Syrian refugees. In response to the crisis, Lebanese municipalities have intensified their efforts. Identity checks have become more frequent, with a clear mandate: zero tolerance for those with irregular status. France 24’s Serge Berberi and Rawad Taha sent this report.

  1. What do you expect? Syrian refugees have turn Lebanon into a chaos, Lebanon has its own problems, it's shouldnt be dealing with syrians'.
Plus they are turning Lebanon into an Islamic country which is not

  2. Why expect to just turn up and displace French jobs, French property, French culture without any respect to French laws?

  3. Syrain's if you can afford to come to Canada under a work visa or student visa or fly to an airport to claim asylum come to the province of Saskatchewan. We have lots of low-skilled and high-skilled job vacancies and very affordable house rents.

  4. Not gonna lie smoking on a motorcycle while not wearing a helmet is pretty badass…like you don't give a damn

  5. Bro i enter my ancestral homeland with a western passport and Lebanese identity stay as long as i want no visa.

The passport dude at the airport asked how long am i staying?

I said Does it really matter?

He said nah not really you’re a Lebanese citizen.

Welcome to your ancestral homeland he said.

  6. Lebanon is the smallest country in the region and does not have the proper infrastructure to host so many refugees regardless of religion or nationality they need to go anywhere else
