I was looking forward to a nice bank holiday and then my 5yo insisted his toast cut like this as it’s the “right way”. Every ounce of my being says this is wrong, but I can’t prove it.

  1. What’s not to love? It’s the only way to ensure that both halves have the same amount of top, bottom, and side. Absolutely with your 5yo on this one, get with the times old man.

  2. I’m assuming you’ve got a plate with a painted hare on it but the way it’s presented looks like a load of dog hair with a slice of toast chucked in top

  3. It’s nice that you got him back by covering the bottom of his toast with under-couch seasoning.

It should be diagonal or horizontal. Never vertical, that’s insane.

  4. A 5 year old should be getting triangles I’m sure there is a law about it

  5. The prospect of a day off school makes kids do crazy things.

  6. I’m more impressed with the amount of butter on there. The toast looks like a vehicle to hold the butter in one place.

  7. Now you have to boil some eggs to make soldiers

  8. Triangles are the only true cut

Are you feeding them a mould toastie, because that’s all I can see in the middle of the slices

  9. I can’t unsee hair and fluff under the toast and it’s making me feel unwell.

  10. I’m guessing it’s too late for adoption being an option, with it being 5?

  11. Toast should always be cut into triangles. It just tastes different for some reason.

  12. My Nan did it like that, Mum did triangles. I’m not to blame for the heathen clan I was born into.

  13. I find with 5 years old it doesn’t matter who is right or wrong, it depends which way causes less drama

  14. For the scientific answer:

Nobody likes the crust as much, and assuming you are only allowed a single straight cut, if you do a diagonal cut from corner to corner you have the least crust as a percentage of the total toast perimeter.

So a diagonal cut is the superior choice.

  15. I prefer horizontal to vertical cut and can’t stand triangles 😂

  16. I cut my sandwiches this way.

Each side then has a rop and a bottom, Instead of one each. (Most people have a preferred)

Plus, they seem like you get more or they are bigger, somehow!

  17. Triangles taste better. I don’t know how or why but they just do.

  18. If you didn’t prove it how did you bake the bread in the first place?

  19. That’s how I (M56) cut toast, and sandwiches. That’s how I’ve always done it. It’s never until now occurred to me it might be weird. It’s not weird. It’s symmetrical and right. And both halves have a bit of crust to use as a handle, which is what crusts are for.

  20. Your five year old is wise beyond their years. I’ve been insisting forever that this is the right way – it’s the only way to make the halves really equal and symmetrical!

Though tbf it does feel like there’s more bread when it’s cut diagonally.
