Deliveroo drivers on L plates have had disastrous consequences for these. Now normal cars aren’t even stopping

  1. I’m pretty sure the trend of cunts not stopping for pedestrians existed far before Deliveroo’s inception

  2. Zebra crossings without any lights are not very common in London. But I’d say car drivers generally stop the vehicle to let pedestrians cross. Even L-plate mopeds do. Cyclists less so and that’s annoying too. To me the biggest problem (and that’s anywhere on the road) are deliveroo riders on illegal e-bikes. Absolute lunatics.

  3. I always wait at the side now until the car is obviously slowing before I start crossing, just in case the driver decided to not to stop.

  4. In my experience the worst offenders are in order: 1) Bikes, 2) Vans, 3) Mopeds, 4) Motorbikes, 5) cars

  5. Location for those wondering: The zebra crossing at the back of Tate Britain, near the communal gardens of the Millbank estate. A statue of the artist John Everett Millais is just out of shot to the right.

  6. Once upon a time pedestrian crossings didn’t need lights, the Belisha beacons were added to give drivers advance warning they were approaching a crossing. The Pelican crossing (with traffic lights) was a later addition but now seems to be the norm. (Called Belisha beacons after the transport minister who introduced them, Leslie Hore-Belisha).

  7. As London becomes ever more international, we are inheriting what most other countries do, which is they don’t stop at zebras unless you actually step on the road

Tbf though England is still the best I’ve come across in the world at respecting the rules of the zebra crossing

  8. Left UK 11 years ago and came back a year later in and outside of London seeing cars go straight across Pelican crossings when the green man is showing. Really could do with some enforcement on crossings of all kinds.

  9. I don’t remember the last time the first car stopped for me, I always have to wait while at least one drives through – and last time I had to pause in the middle of the road whilst the other side drove through too. In daylight. And I was in a bright pink coat and have pink hair so it’s not like I was difficult to spot!

  10. I saw this post 5 minutes after someone ran a zebra crossing on me!

  11. And that’s why everyone should carry a brick
