Lithuania considers modifying Taiwan representation name to defuse row with China

  1. I think EU has official status in WTO besides individual EU members. Can’t Lithuanian companies use the “Made in EU” brand to blend in? It will be hard to block if enough companies across the EU uses it (I don’t expect all – some won’t want to give up the prestige of Made in Germany, for example)

  2. I’m pretty skeptical about this article. I didn’t see any articles about this in our own national media, and this same FM which this article states offered this change, said a few days ago that they are not considering to ever change the name of the representation office. Up until now it was only our spineless president who said that this was a mistake, because he has a habit of going against anything the government does to gain those anti-government people votes for his reelection.

  3. > two sources told Reuters.

Normally at least they write how their sources are vaguely familiar with the situation, now it’s just ‘sources’.

Our FM is a very stubborn person (and also very arrogant, as the opposition would tell you), so unless he’s stepping down, there’s no way he’ll budge on this issue. For context, he’s the leader of the largest party in the ruling coalition, so no one’s in any position to pressure him or get rid of him to make the CCP happy.

Edit: both Taiwan and our FM have now responded to this specific article saying it’s bullshit, way to go Reuters!

  4. We need to move all dependence for anything away from china and into the rest of the world… sanction all imports from there based on unfair trade practices, slave labour, genocide and crazy environmental damage etc.
