  6. So long as Mike Johnson plays ball with the Democrats to get major legislation passed, I can see Hakeem Jeffries get a few Democrats to back him just enough to stop a motion to vacate. Greene move just makes the Democrats stronger as they can demonstrate by actual results that playing ball will keep the speakership safe.

  7. Another VP hopeful that is done. The thing about ole Don is he doesn’t just want a loyal sidekick. He wants a loyal sidekick who doesn’t try to steal the spotlight. Nobody can upstage el Presidente. It’s why Pence was perfect – obsequious to a fault and willing to sit quietly while Donny sucks up all the oxygen in the room.

    MTG is not only batshit crazy to the point even Trump is like ‘whoaaaa’, she’s an attention hog and, truthfully, not nearly “camera friendly” enough for him. That’s also why Stefanik won’t be chosen. My guess is he goes for a bog standard dude like Pence again.

  14. Really, the rule should be; if you move a motion to vacate, and you fail, you have to resign from Congress. Sort the wheat from the chaff, find out who’s really got gumption and isn’t just grandstanding with zero stakes.

    Jeffries should support Johnson in this situation. Publicly, Johnson has seded to Dem’s demands for Ukraine aid and has for intents and purposes, again, at least publicly, played it straight.

    If Jeffries rallies behind Johnson, he becomes a kingmaker and the Shadow Speaker. Jeffries will be afforded the chance to leverage his support to ensure legislation he wants gets on the floor.

On one hand I feel like the democrats should just hang him out to dry and either vote yes like they did for McCarthy or just present; if the shoe was on the other foot, the GOP wouldn’t save a democrat from being removed. On the other hand it shows bipartisanship and unity as a party and that the democrats don’t want more chaos they want order and to actually govern.

He blocked aid to Ukraine for months, and has been edging government shutdowns constantly with short term funding bills. He’s been crippling the entire legislative branch for as long as he’s held the gavel. He’s not our friend and will stab us in the back every chance he gets. I want my reps voting for Hakeem Jeffries for speaker.

  30. Marge won’t earn her villa outside of Moscow if she doesn’t disrupt the function of the US government. Plus if she fails she’ll have to avoid windows for the rest of her life.

  32. I would prefer the Democrats to let her succeed unless Johnson just bends over and agrees to stop stalling critical legislation. Johnson has been the face of the GOP killing legislation because they don’t want to give Biden a win in an election year.

    Remove Mike Johnson, the GOP look like the party that isn’t serious and doesn’t want to get anything done. Let them be in chaos for a few weeks, let MTG become total persona non grata as they fail to select a leader, then make an offer to moderate Republicans for a power sharing agreement that will allow for critical legislation to proceed. Get enough moderate Republicans to support the coalition government that funds border security, Israel, Ukraine, infrastructure and keeps the government open. Democrats get committee seats. Sideshow witchhunts get shut down.

  37. Vote seems like a formality. The Dems will protect him, which will effectively remove any power he has as a Republican. He’ll be seen as a RINO that worked with Democrats in his party.

  38. At this stage, I say let her shoot her shot. It’s not like this Congress has been able to get anything done anyway beyond accumulating airtime. If they truly want to be seen more unable to govern than they already do this close to a national election, I say let them.

    The Dems are likely thrilled at the prospect of watching Republicans score a goal on their own end zone.

  40. Somebody at my job just went on a 20 minute rant because Mark Hamill went to the White House meanwhile their party can’t keep a speaker for more than a couple months.
