  1. If you wonder around ≈100.000 Russian soldiers died during this war in total compared with >10.000 Romanians.

Get from that what you wish for and compare your own conclusion to what’s written in the title.

Balkan counties are all really proud with the independence wars they have won however never seem to acknowledge that absolutely all of them are results of foreign intervention and never give the 95% credit that the outside power deserves. Disrespectful really.

  2. Romania did had a significant impact in that war, nevertheless. First, it provided the necessary cover and security on the Danube for Russian army to pass by without to be bothered/stopped by the Ottomans.

Later on the Russian asked Romania for help, there is a famous letter send to Romanian king on this matter (which the Russians tried unsuccessfully to retrieve in the first years of communism era). Russians were practically bogged down in Bulgaria, unable to take the Ottoman fortifications and as such having their back occupied, unable to press forward south and in danger to be forced to retreat without any serious accomplishment.

There were 40,000 Romanian soldiers who then passed south of Danube and the overall official command of the entire armies (Romanian and Russian) focused on taking Ottoman fortifications was given to the Romanian king.

Romanian army was instrumental in the victory at Plevna as well, and the General Osman Pasha, the commander of Ottoman forces in the Balkans had surrendered himself (and offered his sword) to a Romanian Colonel at Pleven/Plevna

  3. Who cares? In everyday of the year you can find a European battle somewhere in the history. This is a shitpost, and I say it as a Romanian.

  4. “Romanian Army” consisted of

    Romanian 66,000 troops

Russian Empire 280,000 troops (European front)
    500 cannons[2]

    Principality of Bulgaria 50,000 troops
    200 cannon

    Another Classic European war victory.

  5. People in this common section are like : “boo hoo romania small russia mvp you have no right to celebrate this battle”. Dude considering the fact the romanian people spent the last 800 years under occupation by the Hungarians, the Turks, the Poles, the Turks again, the Russians, the Austrains/Austro-hungarians, the Germans and the Soviets the very fact romanians still exist as a people is a miracle in its own right.
