Surprised you don’t see a noticeable dip for Russia in WW2.
i think a lot of discussion about a possible war in Ukraine misses this important detail
while we used to talk about 2 superpowers, the reality is that Russia’s demographic and economic power has stagnated in the last 40 years, while America, due to high immigration and moderate economic growth, has gotten stronger and stronger
the only powers that can replace US are India or China
however,EU+ US population is around 770 million
would UK ,Canada,Australia maintain a strong alliance with them, they add another 125 million people
**for a total of 900 million people living in Western democracies**
carefully designed skilled migration policies could tilt the balance even more in favor of the West
and a good relationship with India, which with all its faults is still a democracy with 1.300.000.000 million people, would help maintain the balance
One should think those cold winters….
So WW2 impact was smaller than holy 90’ies one in RF
Well Russia / Soviets did have Stalin….

Forget the space race, Americans fucked their way to Cold War supremacy.
Nothing kills birth rates like commusim.
That’s because the USA has constant new immigrants
Evolution? What, do Mericans have glass eyes that see in the dark and gills?
Stopped growing after collapse of the union. Curious.
Whatever. Who cares? Please don’t compare the United State of America with an eastern european shit hole.
I would be okay with only 250 million people here (America)
Cool! Love the US 😊
Considering that the birth-rate of the Russian Empire (early 1900’s) was 7 chidren per woman, if the first and second world wars alongside the Communist Revolution didn’t take place, Russia would’ve had a comparable population to the US.
Russia at that time (the early 1900’s) did slowly start industrializing.
The population of the Russian Empire rose from 65 million in 1850 to 160 million by 1910. Take in account demographic transition, subtract other countries, Russia would have around 200 to 250 million people today. Ukraine would hace 100 million probably.
Also the former Warsaw pact countries that flipped to NATO have about 100 million citizens and a GDP of a bit over $3 billion when adjusted for PPP versus 144 million Russian citizens with a bit less than $4 billion GDP PPP adjusted. Russia lost about half of its economic power and land force in Europe when their former colonies gained independence and joined NATO. If the Ukraine were to join NATO the 1999 and forward NATO members would have an economy and population roughly similar to Russia.
The U.S doesn’t seem to stop growing… it just keeps going
And Russia looses the competition
I don’t like this graph. The Y axis starts on 100 million therefore skewing the data.
The weird thing to me is how abruptly Russia stopped growing – I wonder if its more about the collapse of communism/USSR than actual changes to birth rates.
I mean between 1980 and 1990 Russia added 9.5 million people, and then in 1990 to 2000 they had a decline of 1.4 million.
Even the total USSR, from 1979 to 1989 had an increase of like 2+ million a year and then has stalled/declined since.
This is obvious. In Russia there’s a much higher chance to fall from a window after expressing disagreement with the government. It’s normal to have less kids when all of your men are dead
Anyhow, the amount of USS-nostalgic and anti-USA comments in this thread is terrifying. I just wonder HOW Europeans are defending Russia even when we perfectly know what shit county it really is

Rip environment, completely unsustainable projections.
