  1. Haha fuck off, russia can talk. Changing the constitution so putin can rule for life, because he told them to

  2. Churchill served as PM throughout the 2nd world war without an election, despite one not having being held since 1935 same had happened in WWI
So long as Zelensky enjoys the support of the Ukranian Parliament and people then its right and correct that he stays on in current circumstances

  3. I am not sure about Ukraine maybe I should not even say it. But in my country a president can stay longer in times of war

  4. Ukraine is still in the fight because of Zelensky’s ability to gain support worldwide!

  5. Cant really have lines of people waiting to vote. Maybe I am being racist making the assumption that Russia would take that opportunity to accidentally miss a military target and hit civilians instead. Events of the pass years has made me think the worse of Russia’s humanity.

  6. According to the German radio station the Ukrainian constitution allows that there are no elections wartime.
The same as in Germany. There are some practical reasons.
There are all the refugees in Ukraine and abroad.
So the electoral register must also be updated.
And if on election day an evacuation is needed …
Where should the Ukrainian soldiers cast their vote?
    In the combat zone?
But then there should also be international election observers there.
    What about election campaigns?
    Or information about the candidates?
And the time to inform yourself?

And in other parts of the country:
Will it be made public where the polling stations are?
Will Russia then attack these with missiles or drones on election day?
What will happen in case of an air raid alert?
    Who will leave last?
Will the observers also have to wait that everything is locked up or should they stay there?
Also a postal vote also requires a public count.
Some questions from before also apply here.
But I have to concede a certain amount of power to someone.

Putin could force Ukraine to have elections.
If he would withdraw all Russian soldiers from Ukrainian territory, the war would be over.
Elections would have to be held at the earliest possible date in accordance with the constitution.
But he could not directly influence the election result.
Indirectly he did. I guess Medvechuk would have negative chances now.

  7. 1. Russia is a dictatorship and has no credibility commenting on the machinations of a democracy

    2. Russia launched an illegal, unprovoked, fascist, imperialist invasion of a sovereign country prompting the constitutional retention of the sitting president. If they wanted him to leave at the end of his term they shouldnt have started this fucking war

    3. putin and his dogshit country can go to hell

  8. Oh, I was just reading about this very thing [on this blog](https://libraryofcontext.wordpress.com/2024/05/06/fact-or-fiction-zelenskyy-canceled-the-elections/). They’ve linked a lot of the original sources, which is nice.

It seems like, laws aside, Ukraine doesn’t have the means right now to make sure an election would be safe and fair. Having one just because of outside pressure seems like it would make things worse, since then the results could be called into question.

  9. Putin: *Changes constitution to extend rule*
    Russians: “Understandable”

Zelensky: *Extends rule due to already existing constitution laying out the entirely predictable response to Russia’s actions*
    Russians: “Hey, that’s not right”

  10. 1 – It’s literally in UA constitution to delay an election during a situation like this war. Good, bad, or otherwise that is quite literally the law

2 – How do you run an election when a huge percentage of your country is literally occupied by an enemy?

  11. Sure russia.

Just f off from the 18% of ukraine you control and they’ll happily have a fair and impartial election.

  12. Ahhh yes, Russia is totally in a position to question how Zelenskyy is still in office.

    Ahahahahahahahahaj
