Passengers being rescued from plane stranded amidst heavy snowfall in Istanbul Airport

  1. My mother was stuck in a plane for 9 hours until a bus came to pick them up, and then the bus got stuck.

She’s sleeping in the airport tonight, all roads are blocked.

  2. It surprises me that Istanbul Airport apparently has no defence against snow? (or do i come to wrong conclusions?

No de-icing for airplanes? No snow plow clearing the runway? ..and the roof of a part of a hangar that collapsed because noone bothered to clear it off the roofs?[https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/sc6vjs/in_the_cargo_section_of_europes_largest_airport/](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/sc6vjs/in_the_cargo_section_of_europes_largest_airport/)

I could be forced to understand it for Istanbul in general, but an international airport even? That’s not so good. They DO have fire protection equipment and vehicles that rarely gets used but needs to be maintained “in case”, so why not winter protection stuff? (or what is it that i do not know but need to know?)

  3. Honestly, it’s a bit shameful, that one of the largest airports in the world does not have enough equipment to clean the snow.

On the other hand, such snowstorms are probably very rare in Istanbul.
