ALL social media needs to be regulated, not just TikTok. If Tiktok alone is regulated while others aren’t, it’s just following the US in their new Red Scare 2.0 nonsense.
In addition, if TikTok was banned, what do you think all the banned people will go? Yeah, back to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and so on. They don’t simply vanish. These people (and bots) still exist.
So if we assume that these individuals just go to other platforms then, what makes you think those will handle the situation any better? Do you trust Elon? Do you trust Zuckerberg?

The difference in the scrutiny of US tech vs Chinese tech by EU officials is night and day. It reveals a pretty clear faustian bargain that they’ve made with Beijing.

Tiktok feels too compulsive and unregulated. But yeah, I agree that we need better regulations on socials.
Also citizens really need some kind of education on how to proper use internet and approach socials, possibly starting from

TikTok is shit but following US political low level decisions is even more shittier. It was NSA who spied on multiple presidents. It was Cambridge Analytica with Bannon, Facebook, and Trump who mass manipulated hundreds of millions with psyops — they are a big cause of Brexit as well.
Want to fear the terrible CCP & China? Fine, but fear the the other country that is a warmonger, frequently throw coups, has military bases around the whole world, and is by far the country that most spend on military.
**And**, is the one who has 9 of the 10 most popular social media apps in the world. TikTok is the only app in that rank that is not American. Does someone here really believe TikTok, an app for stupid people to watch idiotic content and soft porn, is more dangerous to you than Meta?
Europe doesnt believe in full freedom of speech nor does Europe believe completely in separation of church and state, in many countries the two are completely combined.
So why this high horse over the most effective way to get to our youth?
If you think its just hysteria from India (banned), and USA (doubtful will ban) then perhaps you should look at what government officials, security experts alike across Europe have said on why TikTok is bad and why its banned in China.
