The “oldest city” thing is kind of a tourist trap. The oldest city in Slovenia is actually Koper (because Romans came from the west). Ptuj was, however, the capital of Roman province Pannonia and by far the biggest city in the area. It was also a home base for Ceaser’s famous 13th legion which he used to conquer Gaul.
