Robert Burns didn’t actually write all of ‘Auld Lang Syne’. The original verse was around years before he was alive.
He rediscovered it and tweaked it and wrote it down along with adding new verses.
Before ‘Auld Land Syne’, the common song used at the end of a party or visit was ‘The Parting Glass’, which is now more commonly used in Ireland.
