First migrants set for Rwanda flights detained in house raids

Migrants earmarked for deportation on the first flights to Rwanda have been detained in an operation by immigration enforcement officers.

The migrants have been picked up in raids by officers in the past two days and taken to immigration removal centres where they will be held ahead of the first flights in nine to 11 weeks.

They are among 5,700 migrants whose applications for asylum have been denied after arriving in the UK illegally between January 2022 and June 2023. They were previously notified of their removal to Rwanda.

They will be detained at seven immigration removal centres, where detention capacity has been expanded to 2,200 places although they will also be required to hold foreign criminals and other immigration offenders already facing deportation.

  5. With the fact that Rwanda. is only capable of taking. and housing. 250 migrants. It would appear the government has paid all this money. and picked up all these immigrants. to be sent to Rwanda, which it can only take. 250 individuals. I think someone wants to. re examine, The mathematics of the situation. Plus, the fact. that some of this 250 accommodations in Rwanda. are being sold to local people. at a discount. because migrants have not been sent to Rwanda yet. Also, there is the niggling fact. that Britain has. told Rwanda. it will take 250 of their migrants. to replace the ones they take. from us. All in all, this has spent a money making project for Rwanda and the government. at the expense of us peasants. absolutely pathetic

  11. The capital city in Rwanda is rated as very safe and has a thriving economy which surprised me. However there is widespread poverty and still unsafe areas on its borders. But the economy there has grown.. It's come along way from 1994. This should act as a deterrent to stop people making that perilous journey across the channel if lm honest.
    There has to come a time when enough is enough. No more people of any kind for at least 5 years until the ones we have are cared for and established. And block all Brits from bringing brides or family in for that period as well.
