now Ukraine State security service says it’s foiled a planned assassination attempt on President Vladimir zalinski and other top military and political figures ke says it has detained two Ukrainian security officials it says were plotting zelinsky’s assassination and is accusing Russia’s spy agency of being behind the plan Ukraine says it’s foiled at least 10 attempts now to assassinate the president since Russia’s invasion in 2022 so John hullman joins us now from the Ukrainian Capital ke with more on this story have you learned anything else about this John Yes actually because uh the uh National Security Service of Ukraine the sbu have put out quite a lot of details and there seems to have been more than one plan here one of the plans was to kidnap and then kill President Vladimir zinsky and as you uh mentioned there Mariam this was involving two Colonels who have been arrested alleged ly this was involving them in the uh attempt to uh uh get on side uh people in the military that were meant to be protecting PR president zalinski so that this kidnapping then this assassination could uh take place so that was one of the plans that the Russian Security Service the FSB was allegedly developing and the other one was also uh to assassinate the head of military uh intelligence cillo budanov in Ukraine and the way that they were the plan to do that involved uh uh members of the State uh security service that were meant to be guarding him and also guarding other security officials revealing the location of where he was staying there was then going to be a rocket attack uh then a drone attack to mop up anyone that was still alive and then a missile attack after that to eradicate any trace of the Drone uh attack this is all obviously according to the sbu the National Security Serv of Ukraine and they mention the fact that these two Colonels that they’ve arrested they said that they had handlers from the FSB Russia’s security service that were trying to get uh the ball rolling on this and the assassination of the head of the military in intelligence was meant to happen before last Sunday Orthodox Easter uh in Ukraine so a lot of details here and things that will be concerning to Ukraine they’re celebrating discovering this but uh there was obviously they think a real penetration of this state service that that will be worrying to them okay thank you very much John hullman bring us all the latest on that story from keev make sure to subscribe to our channel to get the latest news from aler

Ukrainian counterintelligence investigators claim to have foiled a Russian plot to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said.
On Tuesday, the SBU said in a statement it had exposed a network of agents run by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) whose aim was to assassinate Zelenskyy and other senior Ukrainian political and military officials.
Two colonels in the State Guard of Ukraine, which protects top officials, were arrested on suspicion of treason to enact the plan drawn up by Russia, the SBU said.
Russia had worked to identify individuals close to Zelenskyy’s security detail, the statement said, adding that the colonels were recruited before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
The two were tasked with finding someone close to the presidential guard who would take Zelenskyy hostage and later kill him, the SBU statement said. It did not elaborate on when the alleged plot had been foiled.
