Can anyone recommend an ex-pat insurance plan?

Hello all!

I’m a US citizen looking to move to Germany within the next six months. My plan is to move to Germany once I have a job offer and apply for my residence permit when I get there. To apply for a residence permit you need proof of insurance ( and more than just travel insurance ). But because I won’t be working yet, I assume I won’t be able to sign up for normal German public health insurance. Does anyone know of any good ex-pat insurance that I could have for a few months before I start working? One that allows me to apply for my residence permit?
